That's because as a child, all the parents and adults talk about how cute she is, pat her on the head and so on. Always.
And a kid being a kid, doesn't like being treated as a cute kid. A kid want to be an adult fast and be acknowledged as such, not petted.
Thus the kid ends up hating the cuteness thing, and it goes on even in the adult age.
Pretty simple psychology and cause & effect stuff, actually.
