Not long ago I was invited to lunch with an old man who befriended me at the kaikan in Livorno. He told me about how he became homeless after going bankrupt, lived on the streets for years but thanks to his faith in the Mystic Law he pulled it through and got himself a new house. But his marriage was already gone, the woman he spent his whole life with divorced him despite having kids who were as old as me. He told me he was happy, but I was struggling to believe him. That's when I realized that pursuing relationships is stupid. In this age there is no guarantee that you will die by your wife's side, it is pointless to dedicate your life to your partner. You should devote yourself to the light inside you, because no one, neither your wife, nor your sons or parents will ever be able to crush the solid foundation of faith you built within yourself.

The moral of the story is you should never become dependent on anyone or anything outside yourself. If you won't listen you will learn the hard way with trauma and heartbreak.
