IMPROMPTU WATCHALONG #10 ALERT
It's already been ten and for this occasion we're preparing something special.
>FLESH AND BLOOD (1985)
The connection to Italy is small, because it's just supposed to be taking place *somewhere* there and the characters have Italian names. The movie's dialogues are in English. That's it. The setting seriously doesn't matter, it's about vague mercenaries and their excuse for violence.
Absolutely hated by critics? 6 results for "rape" on the wikipedia page? INSANE Box Office bomb? Sounds great, right? Now imagine that it was directed by Paul Verhoeven. Yes, THAT Paul Verhoeven, the one behind Robocop and Starship Troopers. What's his definition of " erotic historical adventure"? Only one way to find out!
>FOR LOVE AND GOLD/L'ARMATA BRANCALEONE (1966)
A comedy trying to make fun of the medieval period in general. An Italian knight who isn't the sharpest tool in shed leads a group of bandits on a quest to get a wealthy fief and its riches. Many bizarre adventures await them. The film was successful enough to get a sequel and has fairly good reviews, definitely better than Flesh and Blood! This doesn't have to mean that it's good, however!
For the next week we'll try to get something related to ancient Greece, and given that Kassandra is Spartan and is directly related to Leonidas, this MAY mean 300. Other more obvious titles include Troy, Clash of the Titans or one of the many movies about Alexander the Great. Of course, if you have other suggestions, we're always open.
With about 21 hours left you'll get another notice closer to the screening, see you on our CyTube channel! Check the rentry in the OP for the link.
