Sharpening is creating an edge, honing is maintaining the edge. If I want to bring the analogy further I'd say that shilling your game is sharpening and honing is answering the brainlet takes on it. Say you are in a HSR thread and someone starts shitting on Genshin out of nowhere it is completely fine to (in a civilized way supported by facts) react to it. But starting to mention Genshin out of nowhere and begging to play it makes no sense (as some wuwafags demonstrated before). I hope this helps.
