A lot of people will say Reload is the best but you still get plenty of people saying it's FES, though frankly you didn't miss out on much by avoiding discussions, even the earliest Reload talk was a shitpostfest
I basically agree with everything you said, though I will say there were some little details in Reload that I appreciate, though I don't think they make up for the issues either, little or otherwise
I would probably just play modded FES next time myself unless someone puts out something truly crazy for Reload
