I feel like this tweet best describes the problems I have with the Mario movie designs, they’re just fixing what isn’t broken, this is an age where we can make more stylized 3D films there’s no need give everything a photorealistic texture just to stroke you’re render farm capabilities by showing how much individual strands of hair or characters it can render in a scene.

I feel like this tweet best describes the issues with the Mario movie designs, they aren’t too far off from being in that generic Disneyfied/Pixar/Dreamworks style we see in every generic animated kids flik these days.

Basically, these designs are fixing what isn’t broken, and are a good example on how small changes can ruin a character design.
