No. Snow is based retard. Although honestly I don't think he's a stupid character, judging his actions and reasoning throughout the story. The conclusions he comes to are not so stupid, given the initial premises and the available data.
Hope is too realistic in his bitchy unmotivated behaviour, which is why all the kids and teens and menchildren in 2009-2010 were melting like nobody about him. It's hard to look at yourself from the outside and realize what a cheeky little asshole you are.
As for Vanille, she's pretty convincing 16 yo retard. I've seen a lot of girls with similar personalities as a teenager. Her character changes throughout the story and her conflict seem pretty well written, convincing overall, but like everything in XIII, it feels like large chunks of her story are missing, like they were cut out (I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case).
As for Lightning, haven't seen 21 yo like her. She acts like a 40 yo Karen who wants to talk to a manager 24/7, but at least she has some change in her character and becomes more empathetic.
As for Fang, she's just hot.
Over time, I also began to understand the space pope a little more. He did a very good job of fulfilling his main function - to screw the player's (heh) and the characters' perception in the story, to create in them the false impression that he is in control of the situation. Pretty based.
I would say that Serah is the weakest character in the story. In XIII, she is basically a MacGuffin for Snow and Lightning to develop. In XIII-2, I didn't find her story interesting at all. I remember hearing that there was originally an idea to make Serah a playable character in XIII. Maybe her actual personality was cut by the developers along with the playability.
