Because unlike Aion, GW2 isn't an utterly flagging game that has been struggling since 2009 and only ever been popular in Asia
NCSoft has not yet greenlit GW3 and anyone who is pushing this meme didn't actually read. Even for NCSoft, GW3 would be especially retarded. No investor under the sun is going to look at the MMO market and go, "Yeah, right now is the time to dump fucktons of money into this" ESPECIALLY not when the game is perfectly serviceable for milking.

Considering the huge influx of people running around with low mastery ranks and this event targeted at new players, I'd say they got a nice bump after the anniversary sales. They even are offering free goodies to ease new whales into the farm.
