Butthurt anons wanna pretend "it makes no difference" because they know they have invested a lot of emotional energy in action stories that are toothless at their core, but here's the thing: I'm not saying that deaths equal quality, or that KnY killing characters make it better. But trying to gaslight themselves into arguing that deaths have no relevance whatsoever in action stories that are supposed to depict brutal struggles is just pathetic.
Just call a spade a spade.
Most shonen flirt with killing characters, they just can't pull the trigger. As a result, the fights, no matter how cool, end up feeling as a WWE match. It feels tongue-in-cheek, farcical. Lots of danger, lots of drama, but it never amounts to much, it's like watching the Power Rangers face yet another rubber-suited monster, and the final results, as far as consequences go, are largely the same.
Anyone who wants to pretend that the Gyutaro fight didn't have an extra dose of tension after Akaza killed Rengoku is in denial. Anyone who wants to pretend the second Akaza fight didn't have an extra dose of tension after Douma killed Shinobu is in denial. Anyone who pretends the Kokushibo and Muzan fights had more teeth and balls than almost every shonen fight ever will be unable to prove their points with any kind of tangible, measurable example.
These are the facts.
I don't care whether KnY is "better" than some anon's favorite shonenslop, but it DID present its villains as lethal with real feats, instead of hyping up villains that never manage to kill or cripple a single cast member.
