In the book "Jim Morrison: Life, Death, Legend", the critically acclaimed journalist Stephen Davis,
depicts Morrison as a southern conservative and (occasionally) a casual racist.

From the summer of 1964:

"Jimmy Morrison was known for getting crazy drunk and shouting "n****r around campus , just to provoke the well intentioned. As a conservative southerner, Jimmy seemed to have a racist fear of black people that unfortunately surfaced when alcohol impaired his ability to control himself."

Furthermore, in the book "Riders on the Storm: My Life with Jim Morrison and the Doors", John Densmore reveals that Jim was more in favor of "ethnic purism" rather than the multiracialism advocated by Ray Manzarek.

"Dear Jim, Those last lines of “American Prayer” remind me of the constant arguments you and Ray used to have about man's evolution. Ray wanted a golden race to come out of blending and you argued against the loss of individual characteristics."
