BFV was widely mocked absolutely everywhere when it was announced, it was a genuine fuckup on DICE's part. BF1 was praised to the high heavens for how "authentic" its presentation of WWI was and when BFV was announced as being a WWII the natural expectation was that it would approach the conflict in the same way that the previous game approached the previous war, and then the trailer is a complete and utter confusing mess with its tone all over the place and a woman with a literal bionic arm beating someone to death with a cricket bat.
And then DICE's response to the criticism was to double down on the lunacy and pretend that, no, this is exactly the WWII Battlefield experience that everyone really wants and anyone saying otherwise was a nasty misogynist. That culminated in the spectacularly stupid "if you don't like it don't buy it" remark and the leaked photos of the launch party where they made fun of people complaining about the game's presentation being utter shit.
Presentation is and always will be a very important part of a game no matter how hard the "only gameplay matters" crowd.
