Maybe I need to start posting during One Piece. But I actually watch that, for better or worse. Eh.

Anyway, let's ease into something new from L'Impératrice, here's Chrysalis.

You just gotta love that funky French disco groove. That rhythm really gets you. You ever watch an old movie that goes to Paris or something and there's that music they play in the background to let you know, oh, this is France! Wistful, maybe it has an accordion or something in it. Somehow this feels like a modern version of that vibe, I can't really explain why. But it's got a certain dreamy aspect to it that I love. These guys really have a way of doing it right.

Next we've got another one of MaroMaro1337's Retro Poland covers of Enjoy The Silence.

That blue/purple jacket of his is pretty sick, sometimes I'm surprised people actually make those. Anyway, the melancholy style of Maro's covers fits Depeche Mode pretty well. Lots of good little riffs but overall the sad sovblock sound is a vibe unto itself. So enjoy the lack of silence, and then enjoy the silence until I get the next post ready.

I was gonna just do one song from MaroMaro1337 but he released a new one today so guess what, you get a two-for. First up is Gangster's Paradise.

I think this one is honestly the better of the two, for the simple fact that the guitar work seems far more intricate and impressive to me. The man makes a classical instrument of this thing. And it's always interesting to see how songs like this translate vocals into guitar and the result is pretty good. I feel like if I ever get back into STALKER I really need to make a playlist of this guy's work.

Anyway, the next one's What Is Love.

I say I think the other one's better but this is still really good. I swear he's gotta just be using bare basic drum machine software or something for the rhythm, but it works surprisingly well. The whole thing is always minimalist, very sovblok style. Right down to the possibly authentic VHS video recording and video toaster editing. Either way, it pulls the whole thing together.
