Two years ago this weekend, Michael van Gerwen brushed aside Nathan Aspinall 11-4 in the World Series final in the exact same venue as tonight. Incredibly that was his last success in a PDC Premier Event until this evening, losing his last four Premier TV finals in a row.

It looked as if Luke Littler would romp to a first TV title defence early doors, surging into a 2-1 lead but was then pegged back by Mighty Mike as he survived a bull shot for 3-1 and emerged at the first session interval 3-2. A 10 darter for the Nuke was immediately countered by a crucial hold as Littler missed three darts to break for 4-3, and MVG pinned an elusive D16 before hitting 7 T19s in an 11 darter to break for a 5-3. Aided by the unsurprisingly partisan Dutch crowd, van Gerwen got to 6-3 before Littler decided to piss around and swill some water before hitting D10 for 6-4 at the second interval. Another Nuke surge saw the scores level before yet another failed break opportunity off a 113 out saw the Dutchman hit D8 to lead 7-6. The biggest moment was to come as Littler missed D15 to level and couldn't clean up the single 15 as MVG hit D12 to go 8-6 and then hit D10 for 9-6 at the final interval. Two more holds followed before a superb 130 on D5 won a sixth World Series of Darts Finals title for Michael van Gerwen.

A decent WSoDF that had some great matches (and admittedly some terrible ones (hi Cammy)) but most important of all, the Darting Dystopia was defused once again.

Tonight is once again proof that Autism cannot be cured. And in these dire darting times, thank fuck for that. Will it last? Let's all hope so because the Lukes need SOME sort of competition.

/180/ returns properly on 6th October for the double in double out fun of the World Grand Prix.
