this is always where I stood, nobody should have reasonably expected them to suddenly become competent after slapping a finished label on the original far too early and everything that was implemented being very flawed, the games biggest strength was always more its setting than its actual gameplay
by the time they got to implementing ranged it was so phoned in that I'm not sure kenshi 1 would have gotten that much further even if they had kept working on it, you can feel how much he hated working on the game by that point. there's STILL unimplemented/'fuck it' features listed in the UI for some skills. my honest expectation for kenshi 2 is bannerlord tier:
>more graphics
>more cooks in the kitchen
>half as much actual content, somehow manages to be inferior to original on a mechanical level
>takes too long to make and still comes out underdone
>modders don't immediately make the remaining portion of the game for them after launch as they were hoping
>ultimately revives renewed interest in the IP and boosts the playerbase, is novel to play for a few hours and makes the devs money but isn't a serious contender when compared to their previous attempt and will be forgotten next to it
