I genuinely think Silksong has what I would call "bad Metroidvania design". It doesn't funnel you well, it lets you go to terrible dead ends and then be forced to go back because you don't have the right thing yet. The design has more in common with Dark Souls 1 than something like Super Metroid. A good Metroidvania doesn't even need mapmarkers because it's tightly designed enough that you never have the problem of "running by a bunch of cans and waiting to get the can opener".
I don't mean to be overly harsh to the game, I like it, but it and HK are not great Metroidvanias, they are great sidescrolling open-world RPGs.
