“The NewJeans’ Hanni Act”, proposed by Jeong Hye-kyung.
Following Hanni’s testimony at the National Assembly, which was dismissed on accounts of “K-Pop idols are not seen as workers under Korea’s labor law, and are not entitled to the same rights”.
A bill was proposed in the National Assembly to protect workers in the popular culture and art industry, which are in the blind spot of the Labor Act, from harassment at work.
The main point of the amendment is to prohibit the actions that cause physical and mental pain or worsen the working environment by using the advantages of the popular culture art industry, such as status or relationships.
As of today, the bill has yet to be rejected or approved.
