i just think that if hinako is split in two, then is it not possible shu is also split in two? where shu when she recalls his humanity and kotoyuki is the monster she sees his romantic advances as. it's not that he's unattractive. it's that she feels tricked or otherwise preyed upon. shu isn't just her childhood friend. he represents her youth, innocence, and romance. the reason he becomes a monster is because she views marriage as inprisonment and a loss of herself. she seperates the two as she cannot accept that her childhood friend could have misguided intentions, but they're really one in the same.
all the gods and demons are symbolic. they don't exist in reality. they're manifestations of hinako's psyche.
