Communism is an absolutely disgusting thing for the arts and I say that as a somewhat maoist tankie, it's one of my biggest gripes with it. Art is meant to evoke and reflect one's interior and personal world and, as Schopenhauer said, the highest art is one that deals more with the issues of the human mind, it's personality and inner machinations than slop artistry that tries to make a real world impact. A poem about how bad you want to fuck someone will always be superior than these sloppy poems white people write about racial oppression or worker's rights because they are obviously doing it from either a performative or overly self proud viewpoint. Communism is like venom to some artists and it makes them base their entire output around social issues, systemic injustices and so on rather than genuine emotion or characters because they are so high off that marxist juice. This ain't even a particular thing about artists being paid by the state, though in the USSR's case that certainly helped, because a ton of marxist artists will just spontaneously start making all their works drivel about social injustices on a whim as seen with the north american and specially latin american artistic and literary scenes. There's probably a ton of explanations both cultural and psychological for this phenomena but in my eyes I think people, particularly mediocre and idiotic artists, get some type of high off being in the moral highground and standing up for the weak without having to put the work in for actual political engagement be it nonviolent or activly violent
Communism is not an inherently moral thing about empathy or standing up for what's right or whatever and shouldn't be seen as such, if anything these types of people are a plight on the revolution and CIA cattle
