The internet used to be a safe haven for shut-in losers and autists, and now it isn't. It really started to die when the iphone released back in 2007 and opened the floodgates for normies. Suddenly you had a bunch of tech-illiterate smoothbrains that didn't need to know anything about computers (and in fact were the same retards that would never ever touch a PC even if their life depended on it) on the web, but it was still on life support until somewhere in 2012-14. I'd say gamergate was the last nail in the coffin.
