The dreamworld of Penacony might not be real but it isn't fake. This is the biggest failure of Amphoreus. How can one be driven into the game's central theme of exploration and understanding when the world you're tasked with exploring is entirely made up - and the fakeness of this world is made evident from the very beginning in 3.0 for anyone with two errant braincells to employ. Penacony has a history, it intersects with the universe at large, pieces of its history resurface in the present, shaping and influencing both its real and not-real layers, and some secrets born of that history lie waiting for discovery by loregods. But what reason do I have to care about the Era Chrysea or the death cult of Aidonia or the destruction of Styxia when all of it is just the fanfiction of some robot to serve as dressing for his simulation? Something that would completely cease to exist if the metaphorical plug of the Ccepter was pulled? It would be like if The Matrix was instead 70% about some Bright-esque alternate Earth history the machines decided to cook up for the Matrix and only the remaining 30% of the screentime revolved around the actual fiction of the 'real' future earth enslaved by machines. This is why the majority of people say the only interesting parts of Version 3's story are in the parts with the Genius Society. Even if what happens inside Amphoreus can have bearing on the real world, ultimately very little of it actually matters and instead the vast majority of all its politics and history and cultures are completely spiritless.
