to me the absolute must-play list is:

>Platinum
>HGSS
>BW
>SM
>PLA
if you're having fun play FRLG, BW2, SWSH, and SV, they're all good.
i think BDSP is a reasonable sidegrade to Platinum but most people don't.
i also think USUM is a direct downgrade from SM specifically for ruining the story which is generally highly regarded, but again this is controversial.
the only games i wouldn't bother with at all except out of morbid curiosity are XY and especially ORAS.
