Here's Dolphin and Nautilus side-by-side.
Decide for yourself which one is more featureful and which one utilizes space better.
It's Linux after all, you're free to install and use whatever you want.
I personally find the GNOME UI generally uses bigger, touch-friendly controls, while KDE sticks to traditional, desktop-optimized. So it makes sense they need CSD to save space for the bigger touch targets.
Note Nautilus is the only file manager I'm aware of that doesn't have an expanding details view.
