In English, singular nouns require an article (a or the) whenever they're not proper nouns outside of some set expressions (e.g. 'go to bed', 'I need info').
Also, irregular verbs exist from a reason, usually being descended from the distinction between strong and weak verbs in Germanic languages. There is no reason for recent coinages like the verb 'to bot (a poll)' not to follow regular paradigms, since the older ones are typically less productive or not at all anymore (e.g. the paradigm seen in 'drive, drove, driven' is only shared by a limited category of verbs, and has hardly been productive in recent times outside of rare exceptions like the verb 'to dive'); hence 'botted' is definitely the correct past tense, without exception.
