Unreal Engine 4's entire engine runs on blueprints, which is node based. People have had no problem making complex 3D games use nodes.
Blender uses nodes for their shaders. People have had no problem with that either.
Unity, another 3D engine, also uses nodes for shaders and some visual scripting.
If you think the leading engines are all "aids", then that's a (You) problem.
