I see this sentiment from Christians frequently when they're asked about whether they'd forgive some awful thing or person. They generate tons of little extra-Biblical copes about how forgiving doesn't mean forgetting, forgiveness has limits, oh actually it's God's job to forgive not mine, etc. But the center of the religion is this idea of forgiveness, Jesus spends the most time on that in the Gospels; more than on miracles even. And he calls on his followers to forgive extremely as well, to be perfect as their father in heaven is perfect. Jesus forgives sinful women, he saves one from stoning and lets another wash his feet.

But Christians in real life when confronted with a real example of extreme forgiveness like marrying a porn star? They immediately and instinctively recognize that they'll be a laughing stock if they actually do what Jesus suggested in that scenario. So they immediately need a reason for why forgiveness being good in general doesn't mean they have to be a cuck in this moment right now.
>Yes you should forgive, but...

Maybe if somebody's teaching is so obviously wrong on the face of it, they weren't actually of divine origin?

>WELL HOW DO YOU GET THE FIRST FOLLOWER?!?!?!?!?!
Did you retards think this is some kinda gotcha? The question isn't whether they can get any converts at all, it's why they couldn't spread. Any religion can get first converts, even dumb cults that are thin excuses for sex dungeons, and Christianity managed that in Japan too. What religions have trouble getting is cultural dominance and that only comes through childhood indoctrination over multiple generations, which Christianity couldn't achieve there because the followers all got martyred early on.

You defeat a religion by striking early and striking deep, leaving none alive. Which the Japanese did.
