Paldea as a region unmistakably sucks, barely any notable landmarks, no sidequests or anything of the sort, caves all have the same identical visuals and it took the DLC for them to do something interesting, towns are all completely devoid of interiors and by extension any interesting NPCs, turning them into glorified menus you have to fly to. The game was an okay open world romp but the actual region is completely devoid of anything worthwhile, minus one or two standout areas that just happened to look good visually, but still had nothing to do in them.
A mile wide and an inch thick, it's too bad.

SV's greatest strength was its NPCs and plot but that's not the same as the region itself being any good.
As an example, replaying Johto games are fun despite there being very little in terms of story and NPC dialog compared to that of SV, but places like Ecruteak with its two towers, Olivine and the lighthouse, the Rocket Base, Dragon's Den and Ruins of Alph are all make the region stand out far more to me than Paldea did with its empty plains and barren mountains.
