Powercreep only really matters in Dire+ SO (which is mostly a wallet check to begin with). Abyss and IT can be done with several older units and even Fearless SO has some flexibility
You also have to factor in how new supports, artifacts, reactions and weapons also benefit older units. Character like Xilonen, Furina and Escoffier buff a lot of units, not just the top tier ones. I've played other gachas where even with a full wheelchair team your older units are still bricked
