I tried watching a girl boss movie. Expand the horizon y’know? I watched The Intern. Every male is a closet faggot and she’s an uber successful online clothing retailer. Close up shots of young women in heels walking lock step. It was actually jarring to watch because it took itself seriously but was so orchestrated. Then I watched Mechanic: Resurrection to clean the palate. Within ten minutes Statham had jumped off the roof of a cable car onto a paraglider then blew up his boat full of baddies. And you know something? It worked. It worked because it knew it was stupid, it wasn’t trying to be a power fantasy. It was trying to be stupid. And it worked. The Handmaids Tale is that carefully choreographed female narcissistic delusion. Its an action movie for women, only it takes itself seriously. If they filmed it like a Tarantino deliberate B grade Grindhouse special like Death Proof it’d probably be a good watch. But no. No, they didn’t do that.
