In Russian-occupied Crimea, a complete shutdown of mobile internet has been announced "for an extended period." The move is explained as necessary to "counter enemy attacks and ensure the safety of citizens."

The peninsula’s so-called "Ministry" of Internal Policy, Information, and Communications has advised residents to withdraw cash and download offline maps. Access will remain only for mobile service and wired internet users.

Similar measures are being introduced in several regions of Russia, as well. While the whole world is moving towards faster and more accessible mobile Internet, Russia is going back in time.
