>What was preventing them from returning to Arcadia when nobles did not have that difficulty.
The Arcadians only got back to Arcadia in a panicked fight-or-flight evacuation to the last portal still open that was actively crumbling - unless you were House Eiluned and saw this coming early. They only came back after a world-shattering event (the moon landing), and their muddy memories imply it was more being exiled by their buddies back home for whatever reason for most of them.
Also, no matter how any Changeling tries to scrub off Banality, being on Earth post-Shattering in a human body means you have what's called a "Banal Shiver" in your soul, and any methods to remove it would most likely involve losing your mind to Bedlam from overexposure. That wedge causes Arcadia itself to actively reject attempts to find it, and supposedly there are armies of those true fae who made it home on guard in the Deep Dreaming, prepared to kill their own to protect the last Banality-free place in existence.
