There's a difference between being creative and adventurous with a genre and just being subversive or wacky for it's own sake.
That's pretty much why all fantasy has been lame for years. It tries way too hard to be different or zany. All good fantasy has rules and abides by them.
Raising the dead is objectively bad in a society that respects it's people. Anyone with empathy instinctively understands this.
