I dont buy flies anymore so i couldnt weigh in on brands but i do know i strongly prefer impressionist presentations over realistic. I feel lore confident in a fly that kinda looks like 3 food items that a fish might eat than one that looks exactly like one food item the fish may or may not be feeding on.

Hardness and diameter are what matter and fish dont care about your line they can see both 80+lb flouro and 30lb knotable wire just fine.

In rivers and creeks ive been having good luck bouncing a coppertreuse micro trd along current seams. Depending on what great lake tgere should be trout and salmon moving in to the tributaries soon.
