The whole point isn't that "death is suffering", it's that life is suffering and death is the escape. The reincarnation angle doesn't make suicide pointless, it makes procreation the real enemy. If you off yourself but never had kids you've actually solved the problem, you achieve complete annihilation, total non-being, which is exactly the goal. The Buddhist view Mainländer confirms didn't see suicide as retarded at all, they considered it extremely meritorious for those ready for redemption. Buddha only told his monks not to immediately kill themselves because they needed to stick around to teach others the path out.
