I mean they technically did with sun/moon, or so I've heard? It's a mixed bag in that regard. There's also the concept that Yo-kai Watch itself is focused on exploring the world/urban area around you to enjoy the now that's in your capability. Pokemon is all about going out in the wilderness to find 'new' experiences. That's why most cities are pretty barebones in the games. They act like pitstops so that you can refresh up and go back out in the wild. Since yo-kai watch is in the city/town mostly, you get the full experience of exploring urban life. There's some wildlife, but it's delegated to mostly parks and such, but every nook and cranny explored in the city rewards you with an item, or an alleyway to find different yokai. Or a sewer level.
