here's what i do when someone catches my eye
>get into some dungeons/parties with them, but not forcibly
>gauge them based on how they interact with the small groups because it can change a lot compared to guild/world chat, possibly get to know their timezone and if they're employed/schooling or neet
>after partying a couple times over a couple days, add them if they haven't added you and you're still interested in them
>they'll probably assume it was an accident or you just did it because you played with them, this is GOOD, you don't want them to suspect anything
>later, *you* message *them*, if they message you first then you have to put in more work, but since you've maintained your introverted persona and don't talk much in parties/guild/world, they'll be pleasantly surprised when you message them
>be normal, "hi", or send a sticker, or ask if they want to farm that thing you were farming before
>they'll now do the same to you, or they might not, just continue to be normal
this works on anyone except the giga-friend collectors and mega-yappers, neither will appreciate you adding or messaging them, but they will feed off of your attention, so be careful
now you can groom lonely old men playing anime girls too
