Imagine you have a magical cookie jar. Every time you open it, a puppy appears on your doorstep, and a rainbow appears in the sky. Can you definitively say that the act of opening the cookie jar causes the puppy to appear, the rainbow to appear, or both? Why or why not? What if you open the jar one day and only the puppy appears? What does that tell you about the relationship between these events?
