very true and well-said. I'm no stranger to the trap of using personal style not as authentic expression of the life behind the clothes, but rather as escapism; as a coping mechanism for a lack of grounded identity and agency in life.

my hope is that styles and "-cores" that appeal to you do say something about the person you wanna be and the kinda life you wanna have. i think if you interrogate that you might be able to extrapolate not the story you CAN tell about yourself, but the story you want to be ABLE to tell about yourself, and follow that golden thread of inspiration into a life that you feel fits you.

clothing is no substitute for a life well lived, but i think fashion can inspire life, the same way music can.
