I was a one-and-done O1+O2 and had the opposite experience. All the JO’s got maximum exposure to fieldwork and hands-on mission execution. I had unlimited responsibility and was able to sign myself up for trainings and “fun” quals without anyone’s permission, and generally had freedom to figure out how to get results and solve problems myself.
I would have been bored to death if I stayed in for 20.

I got along great with senior enlisted as well and didn’t have to do anything special or intentional, just don’t be a dick and be competent and everything else will work out.
