Much worse. If you bought at the peak in 1929, the market took until 1954 to get back to the NOMINAL high. Inflation adjusted, it didn't get back to where it was until the 1980s.
THAT WAS JUST TO BREAK EVEN! The longest market correction was 90 years, in the UK if memory serves.
The Nekkei market crashed in 1989, returned to it's nominal high in 2024, (35 years) but is still under water inflation adjusted.
You can do well in the market after a crash if you have the life expectancy of a vampire.
