Consoles are expensive as fuck and they have Fortnite and Roblox on tablets or laptops. Thats like 90% of what all kids play now. And even then the remaining 10% are on steam playing whatever random stuff their older brother, uncle, father told them is good.
Take the perspective of a twelve year old right now. In that lifetime, was Halo, CoD, Battlefield, or any other old legacy flagships ever good? No. None of them are as good as Fortnite or whatever thing they can find on Roblox. Because each have lost their identities and play like dogshit.

Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure I remember nearly all covie weapons having different velocities on plasma weapons. Both for small-arms and vehicles. Not to mention their space ships which undoubtedly have to be comparable to UNSC missile speeds at the very least to fight across however many kilometers in space ship vs ship combat usually happens at.
So I think a banshee wouldn't have an issue fighting a fast-moving fighter. Hell, you can take damage in Halo Reach's fighter section when just banshees are around. And thats a super advanced craft, not an airplane from ww2.
