Since someone told me there was basically no one in history who even believed that elemental evocation magic existed in the form of stuff like shooting fire bolts that a mortal man could learn has me on an autistic timeout with not wanting to accept any magic like that as it just feels like anime shit without any authentic grounding. I wish to be argued out of this belief with historical sources and myths that aren't about gods so I can resume enjoying dnd derivative mages.
Tolkien gets a pass as usual since his wizards are more like angels/demigods who could reasonably do the fire pinecone-shit since they're not like learned men and more like god wizards like Odin and other divine figures who do display elemental magic of the dnd-kind.
