I assumed they were trying to gather my focus or get my attention. A ploy in that moment to play at some psuedo-supernatural ability or whatever they prefer people believe they are capable of. Or perhaps they're work colleagues in info and are, prior to my being in earshot, hyping themselves up that they can be convincing as whatever they're directed to convince me they are, when they're just regular people doing some job they do. I prefer to believe they're mundane midlings.
