Not many people use wallpaper here anymore. I don't know about Ireland. Store was too specialized. Should have also sold paint, spackle and caulk. Probably sell some tiles too.

I lived in an old house built in 1902. It had bumpy horse hair plaster. It had 7 layers of wallpaper and 2 layers of paint on the kitchen walls when I renovated it in the 90's. Had to put new wallpaper because everything was peeling off and the walls were too bumpy to paint directly on top without looking like shit. The plaster looked like it was only going to last a few more decades. If I would still be living there I might be replacing all the old plaster right about now instead of just a section. Modern plaster is much smoother so wallpaper is unnecessary.
