With the Bill Wilson case, it came out that it was FBI policy to protect jews at all costs. So, if he was even threatening that, they'd likely talk him into targeting somewhere else. And, who knows, there might have even been a plan to stop him, but he could have outsmarted his handler - if we're being charitable to the FBI.
