I think most people are more charmed by the creativity or mini sculpt than the skill of painting.
I remember when pic rel won Golden Daemon, a lot of people dont know how it beat a more fancy model like Sigvald with fancy free hands and shadings etc.
Sometimes simple yet perfectly done is actually better than spectacular. But thats my own POV, and I know I dont paint in a subtle yet perfect way.
