The hanged man has traditionally been interpreted to mean "sacrifice, surrender, and a need to shift perspectives", however that's not the meaning I give it in my readings.

The hanged man is a parody of an Italian style of painting, "Pittura infamante", in which a public person is pictured hanging from one leg in response to a crime, an act of treason or something else that made them lose social respectability. If you interpret the real meaning of the card to be associated with this, it has a different meaning: it's predicting a shameful action, a fuck up, et cetera.
