He ends up meeting a girl via a class project who he's very interested in but seems uninterested in him. That's where Steph comes in, she's somewhat hiding herself because she is mostly "normie-passing" and likes it that way. So even though her and Dexter get along well, she acts like she thinks he's a weird loser in public.

And together they kind of make the internet sort of a worse, more annoying place to be for a while before having to clean up their act because the feds are onto them. Which is where Cosgrove would come in, as a figure who's in Dexter's life because of being friends with his parents and wanting to be a mentor figure to him but never really getting close to the boy.

Like I said, all very stupid ideas.
