Modern rifle bedding you can take it out of the stock and the zero shift is negligible, at least for close range 200 yard shooting. Same is true for modern rings for optics. They are very repeatable and hold their zero well even when removed and re-attached. Its not 1952 anymore.

The rifle recovered was reported to be a mauser 18 savanna. That would have no problem being field assembled and ready to fire.
