Death and resurrection is a ritual. It's part of tantric traditions, shamanistic traditions, and western alchemy which calls it the "dark night of the soul". The main theme of it is ego death, that's why Jesus says if any man wants to follow him they must "deny themselves" and take up their cross.

So three days is an allegory? I had something similar but mine was for a short period of time and when I came to I was just unlocking and locking the bathroom door over and over again. That's when I saw a giant wheel in the sky, similar to the wheel of samsara.
