We live in post-modern times anon, which (pun intended) causes a particular kind of yearning when you live in colonial New England, surrounded by the wilderness and ruins of deeply superstitious people who waded helplessly into a vast and inhospitable world. Sometimes you just seek adventure, and if you're an /out/ lover it only makes sense to retread the same land with the same worries and superstitions of those who were right there hundreds of years before you. Witches or not, that same inhospitality is tangible.

Pic related is my local woods, it's creepy in winter but actually scarier in summer. This is the dark spot in woods where the coyotes live and hunt, so often this spot is littered with the bones of rodents and squirrels and even fox skulls and such. In winter it's still uneasy but at least there's no undergrowth so you have visibility of what's around you
